As you will know doubt be aware if you have been following the team on BBUSA, the United States Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT) have qualified for the 2022 World Cup Finals in Qatar later this year.

In the draw for the finals, the U.S. team were drawn into group B alongside England, Iran and one other team out of Ukraine, Scotland or Wales.

Well after the remaining games in the UEFA World Cup Playoffs were completed last week, we now know that it will be Wales that will be the team that the United States team will face in their opening game on the afternoon of 21st November 2022.

They then face England in their second game on the 25th November and then finish things off against Iran, with both games kicking off at around 2pm EST.

How Did The Final UEFA Playoff Games Pan Out?

The first UEFA Playoff Game of the week saw Scotland host Ukraine in Glasgow

and it was the visitors who came away with the victory thanks to a 3-1 win.

Goals from Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk put the visitors 2-0 up but a strike from McGregor after 79 minutes brought the Scots back into the game.

However in a frantic finale, as the Scots pushed forward for an equaliser, substitute Dovbyk was played through to score with the final kick of the game to put Ukraine into the Playoff final against Wales in Cardiff.

That game was played on Sunday and it was the Welsh that progressed thanks to an own goal from Yarmolenko, with the striker trying to divert Gareth Bale’s free kick around the post, only to send the ball into his own net.

Despite a number of good chances, the Ukrainians could not break through a stubborn Welsh defence and in an exciting game, both sides had chances, but neither could add to the single goal, meaning that Wales qualified for their first World Cup Finals since 1958.

What Do The USMNT Need To Know About Wales?

Gregg Berhalter’s scouting team will already be drawing up dossiers on both

England and Iraq and now that will extend to Wales, so what will they find out?

The Welsh team have qualified for the last two European Championship tournaments, reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and also the knockout phase of Euro 2020 where they were beaten by eventual semi-finalists Denmark.

They have a number of talented players, notably and most famously Gareth Bale, who has starred for Real Madrid since moving to the Spanish giants from Tottenham.

Bale is the team’s talisman and main goalscoring threat through open play and set pieces, but he is not as fit as he once was and is often withdrawn from games with around 10 minutes left to play.

He is now a free agent and may look to sign up with a team to allow him to prepare for the World Cup properly.

Bale’s supported by a number of talented other players such as Aaron Ramsey, Daniel James, Harry Wilson and Neco Williams.

However, the Welsh don’t have huge depth of talent and alongside these superstars, there are a smattering of players who are not regulars at Premier League sides, or who play in the lower leagues of the English game.

However, manager Rob Page has got his team playing in a set way that gets results and they are going to be a tough opponent for all teams in Group B of the World Cup in the winter.

Can The USMNT Beat Wales?

Sure, but in truth, these are two well-matched teams and it will likely be a close

contest between the two.

While the USMNT don’t have a world class figure like Gareth Bale to spearhead the team, they do have better strength in depth than Wales and man-for-man, I feel the USMNT is stronger in more positions than Wales.

The USA are +11000 to win the World Cup with FanDuel Sportsbook, with Wales +14000, which gives you an idea of how closely matched the two teams are.

England will start the strong favorites in the group, but given they lost to Hungary at the weekend, there’s plenty of opportunity for the US to score another big World Cup win over England once again, especially after a solid 3-0 win over Morocco and a 0-0 draw with Uruguay in their last two games.
