MNF Showdown – Bills And Pats Meet With More Than Just The AFC East At Stake

We had a good week with our Sunday Shocker picks once again, which brings us neatly onto Monday Night’s game which pits two of the biggest AFC East rivals against each other.

Current #1 seed in the AFC, the New England Patriots (8-4) face the Buffalo Bills (7-4) with much more at stake than top spot in the division.

With the race for the playoff spots in the AFC so close, with 13 of the 16 teams in with a reasonable chance at the very least of reaching the playoffs, a defeat at this time of the season for a team could torpedo their hopes of reaching the post-season.

However, both these teams are also in with a chance of earning the #1 seed in the AFC and a win in the first of what will be two crucial games between them over the last few weeks of the season, will go a long way towards helping them achieve that goal.

We are going to preview the game and give you our top tips for it, with odds provided this week by BetMGM Sportsbook.

New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills Preview

No team in the NFL has a better record over their last half dozen games than the Patriots. Bill Belichick’s team have won all of those games to move top of the AFC East ahead of the much-fancied Buffalo Bills.

Intriguingly, the two great rivals in the AFC East have not yet met this season and as well as tonight’s game, they also face a potentially season-defining game in Foxboro on the final week of the regular season.

With the Miami Dolphins also on a winning streak of five games, this is a big game for both teams as one slip up could have big implications in the division and also for the playoffs.

Last season, the Bills completed their first double over the Patriots since 1999 and since then, the Patriots have dominated the fixture until last season.

After losing four of their first seven games, the Patriots have won all the last six with Mac Jones maturing into a fine quarterback and managing games effectively, while the Patriots defense has been pressuring teams into many mistakes.

That defense has been led by the likes of Matthew Judon, Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy, Jalen Mills and Dont’a Hightower and it has become one of the most feared outfits in the NFL.

They may need to be though if the Bills can get their offense going in front of their passionate home fans.

Bills Erratic Season Needs To Become More Consistent

Knowing which Buffalo Bills team will turn up each week is a tricky one for fans and onlookers. Iy could be the team that have concingly beaten the Chiefs, Texans, Saints and Jets this season. Or it could be the team that were thrashed by the Colts, lost to the Jaguars and Titans and also lost on the opening day to the Steelers.

It’s hard to put a finger on just one reason for this. At times, the Bills offense has struggled, then at other times, their defense has struggled. They have had their share of misfortune, but equally they have made some very poor plays in games at times.

Despite this, they still remain a massive threat in this division and the AFC and they will know how the two games against the Patriots go will decide the division.

It is time for some of the Bills star men to step up and show more consistency and if they can do that, then they stand a chance tonight.

What Do The Bookmakers Think?

Despite their inconsistent form of late, the Bills are the -3 favorites with BetMGM Sportsbook, but I have to be honest and say at that handicap, I really fancy the Patriots to be the team to back on the spread market. They are +3 and 20/23 with BetMGM.

I can see plenty of points being scored here, so the Over 40.5 points loks the bet to me while for the money line, the Bills inconsistency worries me so I am going to take the Patriots to land the win ahead of their bye week at 6/5.
