Former New Orleans Saints quarterback and sure-fire entry into the Canton Hall of Fame, Drew Brees, is set to embark in a new career as a broadcaster with NBC this coming season after hanging up his cleats this summer.
Alongside his duties in the commentary booth, the former NFL superstar will also take on an additional role as the latest Global Brand Ambassador for the PointsBet sportsbook betting site.
The partnership is an agreeable one for both parties as NBC Sports have agreed a deal with PointsBet as their official sports betting partner, while Brees joins the likes of other sporting stars such as Allen Iverson and Paige Spiranac as an ambassador for the company.
The deal is more than Brees simply agreeing to endorse PointsBet. The terms of the deal means that Brees will become a shareholder in the PointsBet organisation, owning a ‘significant’ percentage of the shares.
In addition, Brees will help to develop fresh new content for the PointsBet site and social media, as well as leading watch parties and assisting in developing new marketing and promotions amongst many other duties.
“I am excited to team up with PointsBet,a leader in the future of sports entertainment built off elite technology.” said Brees after the announcement was made public.
“Sports betting is growing across the country and will positively impact sports engagement, and I am proud to be at the forefront alongside PointsBet and NBC Sports.”
“Embodies PointsBet’s DNA”
The news was also warmly welcomed by the CEO of PointsBet USA, Johnny Aitken. He commented on Brees’ appointment as follows:
“Today is a massive day for our company as we welcome Drew Brees into the PointsBet family.”
“Drew is renowned for his tireless work ethic and achieved great success in his career regardless of the obstacles in front of him, possessing the scrappy, well-prepared challenger, win-at-all-costs mentality that embodies PointsBet’s DNA.”
“We look forward to collaborating for years to come and integrating Drew across our portfolio to complement PointsBet market-leading technology infrastructure and strategic approach to the competitive sports betting space.”
Cementing The Deal
The news of Brees becoming a shareholder and ambassador for PointsBet simply cements the relationship between the sports betting site at the NBC Sports network still further.
There are already plans in place for PointsBet to play a prominent role in the NBC Sports coverage of the NFL in this coming season and with Drew Brees as one of the presenting team, that has only become easier to do, cementing the deal between the two companies still further.
PointsBet will also gain access to all the different platforms that NBC Sports operate on including its multi-media platforms, social media and also the channel’s regional networks.
Spanish-speaking customers will also be able to join in thanks to the Spanish language options available on Telemundo Deportes and Telemundo stations.
With the likes of Troy Aikman and Tony Romo amongst the quarterbacks to have made a smooth transition from playing to commentating, it is going to be interesting to see how Brees approaches his first season in the commentary booth and as a PointsBet Ambassador.
