We know that everyone has their own ideas over who is the top teams in the NFL right now, so each week of the season on a Thursday, we are going to give you our updated Power Rankings for each of the 32 teams in the NFL.
We start this week with ratings based on last seasons performances, how teams have shaped up over the pre-season in terms of free agency moves, draft picks and the like, as well as what action they have seen during pre-season.
There won’t be too many surprises in this list on Week One, but we could see some real shake-ups of this list once we hit Weeks 2, 3 and 4 of the season when we can see how each team is shaping up.
We’ll give you a bit more information on our top ten picks, and then simply list the teams ranked 11th to 32nd each week.
BBUSA – Power Rankings Week 1 – Top 10
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
They are the Super Bowl holders, they retain almost everyone from last season and have made some smart pick ups in the draft, Oh, and Tom Brady’s still going strong. Enough said.
Kansas City Chiefs
With Patrick Mahomes under center, this is still one hell of a football team on offense, although the Bucs may well have shown teams how to nullify at Andy Reid’s potent offense.
The best running attack in the NFL last year now has some semblance of a passing game to go with it. Lamar Jackson is a beast and if the Ravens can become multi-dimensional, they are a real threat in the AFC.
The Bills are one of the fashionable picks in the AFC this season after an excellent showing last year and a strong showing in the playoffs. I’m just not quite sure they have done enough though to close the gap on Kansas City in the AFC.
Los Angeles Rams
The Jared Goff era is done. Matt Stafford now has control of this team and if he can get the offense firing as Aaron Donald does the defense, then the Rams could be serious contenders in the NFC.
Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers staying at the ball club means the Pack don’t drop too far in my rankings. But is Rodgers going to be fully focused after being denied his move this summer? I’m not so sure.
The Titans needed to do two things this off season to take a big step forward. Improve
the defense markedly, which they have, and sign a replacement for Corey Davis, and in Julio Jones, they have a hall of fame receiver to add to an already potent offense. The Titans will be fun to watch this year.
If the Browns can improve their defense this year and steer clear of major injuries to their star men, then they could be a huge threat in the AFC North and make a real challenge in the division alongside Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
San Francisco 49ers
Jimmy Garoppolo will be QB this season, but for me, Trey Lance is the future of the franchise and I think with Lance, the 49ers may have been a spot or two higher on this list. This is a very strong team that are much better than their record last season suggests.
Russell Wilson always makes the Seahawks relevant, but he wanted to leave last season and I think that will mean some will question his commitment to the Seahawks cause this year.
