NFL Season Preview Part One Team Futures Bets – NFC North And AFC North

Welcome to the first in a four-part series of articles in which we look at some of the Team Futures bets available on the NFL’s 32 teams with BetRivers PA.

With the NFL Draft now fading into memory and Free Agency very much underway, teams are now in the process of getting ready for the first pre-season games in August with a bunch of OTAs and training camps designed to get the teams cohesive for that opening week of the season.

The 2021 NFL Season starts with the season opener between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday 9th September, with all teams playing their first games over that weekend.

In this series of articles, we will go through all 32 NFL Teams and the bets available on them right now at BetRivers PA and we will give you our tips on which of the markets to back for that team.

We are going to start our preview by looking at the eight teams that make up the NFC North and the AFC North.

NFC North – Team Futures Bets

  • Green Bay PackersAaron Rodgers out at Green Bay?

Last Season – 13-3 (won Division)

Key Additions – Aaron Jones (RB), Marcedes Lewis (TE), Kevin King (CB), Eric Stokes (CB), Josh Myers (C), Amari Rodgers (WR), Royce Newman (G), Tedarrell Slaton (DT), Blake Bortles (QB), DeCVondre Campbell (LB)

Key Losses – Tim Boyle (QB), Jamaal Williams (RB), Tyler Ervin (RB), Tavon Austin (WR), Rick Wagner (OT), Corey Linsley ©, Montravius Adams (DL), Christian Kirksey (LB)

Divisional Odds – -121

Superbowl Odds – +1600

Largely due to the situation regarding the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, there are no futures markets available for the Packers at present and until that issue is resolved then this is likely to remain the case. A Packers team without Rodgers is a far less imposing threat and could impact the Packers and the rest of the AFC North a great deal. For the selections below though, I am assuming Rodgers stays and plays in Green Bay next season.

  • Chicago Bears

Last Season – 8-8 (playoffs)

Key Additions – Andy Dalton (QB), Desmond Trufant (CB), Damien Williams (RB), Justin Fields (QB), Teven Jenkins (OT), Larry Borom (OT), Marquise Goodwin (WR), Angelo Blackson (DL), Desmond Trufant (CB)

Key Losses – Mitchell Trubisky (QB), Cordarelle Patterson (WR), Charles Leno (OT), Bobby Massie (OT), Rashaad Coward (OL), Brent Urban (DE), Roy Robertson-Harris (DT), Kyle Fuller (CB), Barkevious Mingo (LB), Buster Skrine (CB)

Divisional Odds – +350

Superbowl Odds – +5000

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – No -225
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Under 7.5 -125

The Bears have signed the quarterback of the future in Justin Fields but I don’t see them being quite ready to contend in the NFC North just yet, especially if Rodgers remains in Green Bay. I think a 6-11 or 7-10 record looks most likely.

  • Minnesota Vikings

Last Season – 7-9

Key Additions – Dalvin Tomlinson (DT), Patrick Peterson (CB), Mackensie Alexander (CB), Xavier Woods (S), Christian Darrisaw (OT), Kellen Mond (QB), Chazz Surratt (LB), Wyatt Davis (G), Patrick Jones II (EDGE), Kene Nwangwu (RB), Mason Cole (OL)

Key Losses – Sean Mannion (QB), Mike Boone (RB0, Kyle Rudolph (TE), Riley Reiff (OT), Brett Jones ©, Ifeadi Odenigbo (DE), Jaleel Johnson (DT), Shamar Stephen (DT), Eric Wilson (LB), Anthony Harris (S), Mike Hughes (CB)

Divisional Odds – +225

Superbowl Odds – +4000

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – No -150
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Under 9 -134

Assuming Rodgers stays in Green Bay, I feel the Vikings will be the Packers closest challengers in this division. Even so I can’t see them quite landing a better than .500 winning record and I think an 8-9 finish is on the cards and they will just miss out on the playoffs.

  • Detroit Lions

Last Season – 5-11

Key Additions – Romeo Okwara (DE), Tyrell Williams (WR), Breshad Perriman (WR), Jamaal Williams (RB), Charles Harris (EDGE), Randy Bullock (K), Alex Anzalone (LB), Penei Sewell (OT), Levi Onwuzurike (DT), Alim McNeill (DT), Ifeatu Melifonwu (CB), Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR), Jared Goff (QB), Tim Boyle (QB), Michael Brockers (DT)

Key Losses – Matt Stafford (QB), Chase Daniel (QB), Kerryon Johnson (RB), Adrian Peterson ( RB), Jamal Agnew (WR), Danny Amendola (WR), Kenny Golladay (WR), Marvin Jones (WR), Mohamed Sanu (WR), Oday Aboushi (OL), Everson Griffen (DE), Danny Shelton (DT), Jarrad Davis (LB), Matt Prater (K), Desmond Trufant (CB), Darryl Roberts (CB), Justin Coleman (CB)

Divisional Odds – +2000

Superbowl Odds – +15000

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – No -910
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Over 5 -110
  • Team To Have A 0-17 Record – No -10000

Plenty of changes in Detroit herald another new era but with the state of things in the NFC North, I think the Lions can have a better season, even without Matt Stafford. I think 6 or 7 wins are likely for the Lions this year but they will still be short of the playoffs.

AFC North – Team Futures Bets

  • Pittsburgh Steelers

Last Season – 12-4 (won division)

Key Additions – Tyson Alualu (NT), Cam Sutton (CB), Najee Harris (RB), Pat Freiermuth (TE), Kendrick Green (G), Dan Moore Jr. (OT), Buddy Johnson (LB), Isaiah Loudermilk (EDGE)

Key Losses – Alejandro Villanueva (OT), Maurkice Pouncey (C), Bud Dupree (LB), Mike Hilton (CB), Sean Davis (DB), James Conner (RB), Matt Feiler (OT)

Divisional Odds – +400

Superbowl Odds – +4000

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – No -210
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Under 8.5 -110

I don’t rate the Steelers chances much in a very tough division and with a team that I feel is in a steep decline. I think a 7-10 record looms for the Steelers this season and it is time for Mike Tomlin to think about rebuilding the franchise.

  • Baltimore Ravens

Last Season – 11-5 (playoffs)

Key Additions – Kevin Zeitler (G), Sammy Watkins (WR), Rashod Bateman (WR), Jayson Owen (EDGE), Ben Cleveland (OL), Brandon Stephens (CB), Tylan Wallace (WR), Josh Oliver (TE), Alejandro Villaneuva (OT), Ja-Wuan James (OT)

Key Losses – Yannick Ndakoue (DE), Matt Judon (LB), Orlando Brown (OT), Mark Ingram (RB0, Robert Griffin III (QB), Willie Snead (WR), DJ Fluker (OG)

Divisional Odds – +125

Superbowl Odds – +1400

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – Yes -305
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Over 10.5 -155

For many experts the Ravens are a class act in the AFC and they are the favorites for the AFC North. I do think they will win 11 or 12 games this season but they may well be pipped to the top spot in the division, although they should qualify for the playoffs comfortably.

  • Cleveland Browns

Last Season – 11-5 (playoffs)

Courtesy of Erik Drost – CC.BY.S.A 2.0

Key Additions – John Johnson III (S), Takkarist McKinley (DE), Troy Hill (CB), Anthony Walker (LB), Malik Jackson (DT), Greg Newsome III (CB), Jeremia Owusu-Koromoah (LB), Anthony Schwarz (WR), James Hudson (OT), Tommy Togiai (DT), Jadaveon Clowney (LB)

Key Losses – Marvin Hall (WR), Taywan Taylor (WR), Larry Ogunjobi (DT), Sheldon Richardson (DT), Kevin Johnson (CB), Terrance Mitchell (CB), Karl Joseph (S)

Divisional Odds – +145

Superbowl Odds – +1600

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – Yes -225
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Over 10.5 +100

The days of Cleveland being the joke team in the AFC North are over. If they can get their injured players back and healthy for the long term, and with the solid acquisitions they made, they can really push the Ravens hard in this division. I feel a 12 or 13 win season is on the cards for the Browns.

  • Cincinatti Bengals

Last Season – 4-11-1

Key Additions – Trey Henderickson (DE), Mike Hilton (CB), Riley Reiff (OT), Chidobe Awuzie (CB), Larry Ogunjobi (DT), Ja’Marr Chase (WR), Jackson Carman (OT), Joseph Ossai (EDGE), Cameron Sample (EDGE), Tyler Shelvin (DT), D’Ante Smith (OT), Thaddeus Moss (TE), Eli Apple (CB)

Key Losses – Giovani Bernard (RB), AJ Green (WR), John Ross (WR), Bobby Hart (OT), Alex Redmond (OG), B.J.Finney (C), Geno Atkins (DT), Mackensie Alexander (CB), Christian Covington (DT)

Divisional Odds – +2000

Superbowl Odds – +10000

Our BetRivers Specials Tips

  • To Make The Playoffs? – No -670
  • Number of Games Won In the Regular Season – Under 6.5 -143

Joe Burrows and Ja’Marr Chase in tandem once again will help the Bengals improve this season but in an ultra-tough division I think six wins is the maximum that they can expect, especially having lost a number of key veterans in the off-season.

Join me next week when we take a look at the teams in the NFC and AFC East.
