Have you ever made a bet on an NBA game and wondered just what thousands of other fans and bettors are backing at the same time? Well, you need wonder no more thanks to some intriguing data released by DraftKings Sportsbook from Tuesday nights NBA games.
The company has revealed a whole raft of details about the betting from Tuesday night, including which teams were the most popular to bet on with fans, what the betting on the NBA Splits was, as well as betting on both the Eastern and Western Conference and NBA MVP.
Let’s take a look at some of this fascinating data.
Which NBA Teams Were The One Most Bet On?
It is always interesting to see which teams were the ones fans were backing in the NBA and on Tuesday night, perhaps unsurprisingly the most popular team to bet on in terms of the number of bets was the Los Angeles Lakers. This was followed by the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and in fifth spot the Atlanta Hawks.
However, when it comes to the amount wagered on teams, there is a slightly different order in the top five. Once again, the L.A. Lakers come out top of the list with the Brooklyn Nets second once again. However, it was the Phoenix Suns that were third, followed by the New York Knicks and then in fifth place was the Atlanta Hawks.
NBA Splits Data On Two Tuesday Games
Data on the most popular NBA Splits for the New Orleans Pelicans v Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder v Denver Nuggets games was also provided and this also showed some interesting patterns. In terms of the point spread, the percentage of bets made on the Thunder and Nuggets was 50/50 split, although more money was wagered on the Thunder with their +9.5 spread.
It was the Nuggets that received most backing in that game with 84% of bets made and 86% of the money staked on the Moneyline bet going on the Nuggets. Those insights proved correct as the Nuggets landed a 119-101 victory over the Thunder.
Utah Jazz backers also had a good night with 66% of bets and 68% of the money wagered on the moneyline proving to be winners as the Jazz defeated the Pelicans 118-102. 64% of the money wagered on the Point Spread and 53% of those bets also went on a successful bet on the Jazz.
Conference And MVP Betting
In the futures market betting, we saw lots of money for the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, no doubt due to the signing of James Harden. Nets received 45% of the money waged on the to win the Eastern Conference market and were the subject of 38% of those bets in total.
The Philadelphia 76ers were the next most popular team with 31% of the money wagered going on them and 24% of the total bets.
Unsurprisingly, 61% of bets made on the Western Conference winner went on the Los Angeles Lakers, which contributed 34% of the handle. Four other teams saw a fair bit of backing in the Western Conference with the Portland Trail Blazers (14% of the cash wagered), Denver Nuggets (13%), Golden State Warriors (12%) and Dallas Mavericks (10%) all being well backed,
In terms of the number of bets though, the Lakers were the clear winners with 61% of bets made on that market going on LeBron James and co.
LeBron also features in the betting for the NBA MVP, where he was fourth in the list with 11% of the handle and 8% of the number of bets made going on the Lakers superstar. However, it was Brooklyn Nets legend Kevin Durant that received the most backing here with 17% of bets and 19% of the handle.
Luke Doncic (15% of bets, 17% of the handle) pushed him close in second with Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Steph Curry and Trae Young amongst those also fans favoured.
