Ja Morant Lifts Grizzlies To Series Tying Win Over Warriors

Ja Morant has been the focal point of the Memphis Grizzlies team for some time now and last night, he underlined his importance to the team with a 47-point performance in the. Grizzlies 106-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Such was Morant’s dominance for Memphis, no other player scored more than 14 points as the Point Guard singlehandedly dragged his team to a series levelling win.

In his 41 minutes of action Morant hit 15 out of 31 field goals, five out of 12 three pointers and hit 12 out of 13 free throws in a superb personal display.

The win now levels the series between the two at 1-1 and sets up an intriguing third game in San Francisco.

Warriors Keep It Close

Often when a player hits a high tally of points in a game, it is in a blowout win, but last night

the Warriors kept things very close in the game.

Memphis opened up an eight point lead in the first quarter but by the half that had been cut to five, and then by the end of the third, the two teams were level.

With Jordan Poole and Seth Curry combining for 20 and 27 points apiece, the Warriors probably felt their team ethic would be enough to overcome Morant’s individual brilliance.

Morant suffered a knock to the face which left him with only partial sight for the fourth quarter, but he scored the last 15 points for Memphis to guide them to victory.

It was an excellent way for the Grizzlies star man to bounce back after his missed lay up in the first game to clinch the a victory for Memphis and allowed the Warriors to claim the win.

“That loss was on my mind a lot, obviously missing that layup late,” stated Morant after the game.

“But coming in today, I told myself we needed a win, and we were going to get a win. I just took it upon myself to out there and do that for us.”

He joins Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as being the only players in NBA history to have had two or more 45-point games in the playoffs before reaching the age of 23.

Celtics Rout Bucks To Draw Series Level

In last night’s other games, the Boston Celtics gained revenge for their opening game loss

to the Milwaukee Bucks as they dominated their opponents and effectively ended the match as a contest by half time.

By that point, the Celtics led 65-40 after a dominant first half display and the Bucks could make little headway in the second half, only managing to cut that deficit by two points come the end of the game.

Giannis hit 28 in defeat for the Bucks but he was certainly better defended by the Celtics throughout the game.

Jaylen Brown top scored for the Celtics with 30 points, while Jayson Tatum also collected 29 points, while Al Horford collected all the 11s, 11 rebounds and 11 points and Grant Williams added a useful 21 points from the bench too.

Game three in the series will take place in Milwaukee on Saturday and it should be a cracker as the Bucks seek to bounce back after this sobering loss.
