DraftKings Olympics Basketball Contests Giving Players Reason to Play This Summer

DraftKings offers more DFS selection by sport than other site. And during this year’s Olympics they are also offering Olympic basketball contests.

DraftKings offers more DFS selection by sport than other site. They already offer multiple league action on certain sports(such as MLS and the EPL for soccer contests). Now with the start of the Olympics last week, DraftKings has also expanded their offering to include Olympic basketball DFS contests

The prize pools are not as large as its regular season NBA contests, but they do give players a chance to dust off the cobwebs until the next NBA season begins.

About DraftKings Olympics Basketball Contests

DraftKings is offering a large selection of mens basketball contests during the 2016 Olympic summer games, with guaranteed contests up to $20,000. The slate sizes vary according to who is playing that day. It is expected later contests will span over two or more days. Games will be played on August 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 19th and complete with the bronze and gold medal game on August 21st.

Even though DraftKings Olympics basketball contests are the only ones offered at the moment, they are identified with “INTL”.

Players can join beginner contests, tournaments/leagues, head to head, 50/50s, double up, multiplier contests and satellites to other contests including 2016 daily fantasy football contests.

Despite the relatively low prize pools, players have shown decent interest in the contests. The $3 Sharpshooter contests on Friday attracted over 5000 entries with many other contests such as the $1 $1.5 And One contest bringing entry numbers over four figures. As they say — if you build it they will come, at least in the case of DraftKings.

What About Other Olympic Sports?

Some players have noted that regulation in some states such as Tennessee does not allow for competition for amateur events. This will prevent most sites from offering DFS for many Olympic events, but it does leave open the opportunity for sites to offer contests for professional athlete dominated events like basketball and golf.

Because of the infrequency of the Olympic games, however, it is unlikely that we will see daily fantasy water polo or handball anytime soon but players could expect to see from the Olympic versions of sports that are already offered on DFS sites such as soccer, basketball, golf and hockey.
