Would it be the Los Angeles Dodgers? The San Francisco Giants? Or maybe the Tampa Bay Rays would land a second MLB World Series win in succession?
In the end, the World Series is being contested at this present moment by two teams who, while amongst the top teams all season, were never really amongst the hot favorites to land the trophy.
Those teams are the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves and after the opening two games in Texas, the series is delicately poised at 1-1 ahead of tonight’s third game in Georgia.
Currently, BetRivers Sportsbook has the Astros as the team most likely to win the series. They are +300 to win the series 4-3 and +325 to win it 4-2, whereas the Braves are +425 to land a 4-2 win and +475 to claim a 4-3 victory.
The bookmaker is cold on either team winning out from here in the series with the Astros +600 to win 4-1, while the Braves are +650 to win the series by the same scoreline.

36 Million Reasons Why The Astros Should Win
Perhaps one of the most interesting side stories in this years World Series is that of Mattress Mack, a lifelong Houston Astros fan and millionaire furniture store franchise owner, who has placed bets totalling $3.3 million on the Astros to win the World Series.
Now what makes these bets so special is not just their size, but the fact that Mattress Mack (Jim McIngvale) made the bets way back in March this year.
CHA-CHING 🤑 | “Mattress Mack” bet $3.3 million total on the Astros to win the World Series. His payout would be $36 million, which according to William Hill Sportsbook, would be the biggest reported potential payout in U.S. sports betting history. https://t.co/GqvZZhw4AK

Furthermore, with his payout estimated to be worth a total of $36 million across four Sportsbooks should the Astros win, he stands to share his good fortune if his beloved Astros claim the win, by giving away mattresses to his customers, all subsidized by his potential winnings.
He has made a $2 million bet alone with one betting provider which if it comes in would see him earn a total return of $22m, including $20m in winnings, which would be the largest single bet return ever in US legal gambling history.
However, it would not be the first time that Mattress Mack has landed a big win, after he placed a bet of $3.43 million on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win the 2021 Super Bowl by more than 3 points, a bet which came in for the gambling enthusiast.
The Astros defeated the White Sox (3-1) and the Red Sox (4-2) to reach the World Series, after they finished as the second best team in the American League with a 95-67 record to win the AL West.
Unfancied Braves Surprise Many
The Atlanta Braves journey to the World Series started on the back of an 88-73 regular season record which was enough for them to win the National League East division, but it was the fifth best record in the National League and it is fair to say, that not many expected the Braves to reach the Championship game.
The Braves are in trouble-so what else is new? Lost starting pitcher-broken leg no less. Irony-this is when the Braves are most dangerous. They’ve been in trouble all year. They dig deep, find the guts and grit, find a way. Let’s pull them through!

However a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, followed by a stunning 4-2 victory over the much-fancied Los Angeles Dodgers saw them deservedly earn a place in the World Series.
They also began the series with a superb performance in Houston, defeating the hosts 6-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the series, but the Astros pegged them back last night with a 7-2 victory.
With the next two games now in Atlanta, the Braves will be hoping their home support can lead them to two victories and the brink of a surprise World Series win.
In terms of who I think will win? I’d go with Mattress Mack and back the Astros to win 4-2 at +325.
