FantasyDraft Overview

One of the newest daily fantasy sports sites on the market, launched in the middle of the NFL season. The site has been trying to make a big splash in the one-day fantasy league market, with some big guarantees and by signing top sports stars to endorsement deals (NBA All-Star Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cy Young pitcher Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, to name a few). The site doesn’t quite have the traffic and polish of more established sites, yet, but it is being aggressive in making a name for itself in the market, which should translate to overlays and good value as it tries to grow. An interesting referral program gives you more ways to make money, outside of the actual contests.

FantasyDraft does not accept players located in Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New York, Washington, and Quebec in Canada.

FantasyDraft Sports Offered

Until recently, the site has only been live for football (NFL), with FantasyDraft guaranteed contests running every weekend, including the playoffs. There is an option to select Major League Baseball contests, so it’s safe to assume that will go live this spring. And NBA contests just went live at the start of 2015.

FantasyDraft Interface

The site has a slick, clean presentation, that is pretty minimalist, which isn’t really a bad thing. There are not a lot of bells and whistles to interfere with the core of the site, which is to enter and track FantasyDraft contests. The site is perhaps a little more intuitive in the mobile version than the Mac/PC platform. There is not a mobile app, currently.

Through the FantasyDraft Dashboard you can easily access live, upcoming and completed fantasy contests. It’s also easy to jump into a search for contests that you have not entered yet, or to create your own contest. There are also widgets that allow you to check in on your “friends” at the site, in addition to your referrals (more on that later).

The site went through beta testing in the middle of the season before going live for real-money play. But on the first big weekend after its official launch, with $400,000 in guaranteed prizes on the line, the site had serious technical issues. To the site’s credit, it refunded the entry fee to everyone who did not earn a payout. taking a hit of several hundred thousand dollars in the process. Since then, the site has had fewer problems, but also less traffic. Referral Code & Promo Code: PartTime

FantasyDraft Contests and Prize Pools

There are several different types of contests you can enter, pretty much like any daily fantasy sports site. There are large-scale tournaments with a maximum number of entrants, that often feature guaranteed prize pools. Obviously, the larger the prize pool, the larger the guarantee.

FantasyDraft players can also create their own leagues and matches. If you want to play against just a set number of players (i.e. 10 or 12), there are daily leagues of those sizes available. There are also heads-up matches, where you compete against just one other player, and winner takes all. A huge range of buy-ins are available, from a dollar to the thousands, if you are so inclined.

You can learn more about the contests in the video below. You can sort contests by entry fee, prize pool, number of entries, and start time. More in the video below:

After big guarantees on the launch weekend (one contest guaranteed a quarter of a million dollars), guarantees have been much smaller, usually $50,000 and under. Guaranteed contests usually cost from $2 to $100 to enter. The biggest contest of the NFL’s divisional playoffs was a $25,000 guaranteed event with a $25 buy-in. We’re guessing we’ll get a better reflection of their guarantees starting with the 2015 NFL season. There were a lot of overlays after the opening launch, and you can probably expect more of that in the coming year as Fantasy Draft attempts to solidify itself in the market.

FantasyDraft Full Site Review – The FantasyDraft create-your-own-contest function gives players a lot of power over how they compete. You can pick which games are included, the entry fee, the number teams, and more. The video below explains the system. The options at FantasyDraft are far more numerous and powerful than at other DFS sites. So if you’re looking at doing a custom league with your buddies, FantasyDraft could be your best option.

FantasyDraft Drafting/Scoring

Drafting a team is pretty streamlined and follows the industry standard of giving players a salary cap to spend on a team ($100,000, in the case of NFL contests). It’s as easy as picking a player for each position: FantasyDraft uses one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, a tight end, a flex position (any RB, WR or TE), a kicker and a defense/special team selection.

The $100,000 salary cap allows for more “room” in salary ranking among draftable players, giving DFS players who are looking for small edges in terms of value a chance to employ a little more strategy. The downside is that it differs from other sites, which generally use a salary cap of about $60,000 for the NFL. That makes it a little more challenging to put together fantasy teams across multiple sites, if you’re using FantasyDraft in addition to entering contests elsewhere.

The FantasyDraft interface automatically tells you how much money you have left to spend, how much you are overspending or underspending, and the average player salary you can spend based on remaining open slots. Players can be sorted by average fantasy points per game and by salary. More on how to draft a team below:

FantasyDraft makes it easy to tell if your drafted lineup is valid or not, based on salary cap issues, minimum team requirements. The one drawback of team selection on FantasyDraft vis a vis other sites is news and player updates. While many daily fantasy sports sites make it obvious when a player has a news item or an injury, you have to click into each player’s bio/stat page to see if there is an update that would affect your draft decisions. Once you are in a player’s bio, there is a wealth of information that is as deep as any in the industry. including links to team news (updates for other players on that player’s team).

The scoring generally follows DFS standards, using the point-per-reception scoring option. More on their scoring methods here. Live scoring updates happen very quickly.

FantasyDraft Deposits

FantasyDraft deposits can be made via PayPal, or by credit card or debit card, depending on your jurisdiction. Restricted states include Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New York and Washington, in addition to Quebec in Canada.

FantasyDraft Deposit Bonus

FantasyDraft currently features the industry standard by matching any deposit, up to $600. You can deposit a custom amount and get that amount matched, so you are not limited to the normal matching options (i.e. $50, $100, etc.). Bonuses must be played through, and are unlocked at a rate of 4%, or 4 cents for every dollar in contest entry fees paid by the player.

FantasyDraft Promotions

As a new site, it is a little lean on promotions outside of guaranteed tournaments and the FantasyDraft deposit bonus program mentioned above. We would expect to see some promotions go live when the NBA and MLB seasons go live, and for the 2015 NFL season.

FantasyDraft Referral Program

While there is no FantasyDraft VIP Program, currently, the FantasyDraft referral program is perhaps the most unique aspect of the site. FantasyDraft’s 6 Degrees of Pay program lets you earn money based on how many referrals you have, and your referrals, up to six degrees away (think about the “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” game). About a third of contest fees are paid out to referrals, according to the following pay tiers:

First degree (personally referred players): 10%
Second degree (Players referred by your First Degree): 10%
Third degree (Players referred by your Second Degree): 15%
Fourth degree (Players referred by your Third Degree): 15%
Fifth degree (Players referred by your Fourth Degree): 20%
Sixth degree (Players referred by your Fifth Degree): 30%

The moral of the story is that the deeper your referral network is, the more you will make. If you’re a visual learner, you can find out more about the program in the video below: Promo Code & Referral Code: PartTime

While the site doesn’t have the traffic or the huge guarantees of its competitors yet, FantasyDraft has worked hard to establish itself in the DFS market. That could mean good things for players in the coming years. If you like a clean presentation and the ability to have a lot of power over custom contests, FantasyDraft is for you.
