Dueling with Kings, a DFS book released in early March, is getting rave reviews from readers and fans of DFS alike.
A highly acclaimed daily fantasy sports book was released last week. The book is called Dueling with Kings and its authored by former Wall Street Journal New York Yankees beat writer Daniel Barbarisi. It is about the “High Stakes, Killer Sharks, and the Get-Rich Promise of Daily Fantasy.”
Dueling with Kings can be compared to the in-depth examination of books on other profitable games – Bringing Down the House (card counters) and Positively Fifth Street (poker players). Like those books, this book is appealing to both the die-hard and the general reader, whose experience with daily fantasy sports is limited to watching the commercials.
The Premise of Dueling With Kings
Author Daniel Barbarisi leaves behind his job as a beat writer for the New York Yankees to embark on a journey to be one of the top DFS players. As he immerses himself in his new world, he quickly discovers his background in sports doesn’t guarantee success as he encounters highly analytical sharks and sports fans. They are not only equipped with algorithms and tested systems, but many are creating hundreds of lineups a day.
All of this happens as daily fantasy sports is gaining popularity and notoriety by the day, but at a time the industry is encountering significant legal pressure for the first time in its short history.
To learn more about Dueling with Kings, Deadspin has posted a lengthy excerpt, which covers how the daily fantasy sports wars almost took down DraftKings and FanDuel. Dueling with Kings author Daniel Barbarisi was also recently interviewed by WTOP. You can listen to Barbarisi discuss the book.
Reaction to Dueling with Kings

At the time of this writing, the book has five stars on Amazon and is winning acclaim acclaim across the internet. The book is also getting high marks from general fans of the written word for its engaging writing style.
