A look at the scoring and rules for DraftKings DFS CS:GO contests.
Are you one of the millions of people who enjoy eSports or daily fantasy sports? How about both? With DraftKings, the world’s largest daily fantasy sports site, you can utilize your knowledge of major eSports to play millions of dollars in eSports contests every month.
One of the latest editions of the DraftKings eSports offerings are fantasy Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) contests through the ESL, the world’s largest eSports company.
eSports DFS is quite similar to the daily fantasy sports you may be used to. However, instead of drafting your favorite players on the field or court, you select eSports players that are participating in specific games.
Today we will go over the basics of what you need to know to play CS:GO contests.
DraftKings CS:GO contest styles
When entering a CS:GO contest, your goal is to create the best lineup of CS:GO eSports players while staying under a salary cap of $50,000. With CS:GO contests, there are two primary game styles, each with a distinctive roster size and structure — Classic and Showdown contests. Both styles award the same scoring structure with one caveat.
Classic contests: In Classic CS:GO contests, you will be required to draft a total of six players, 1 Captain and 5 Flex Positions. You can select anybody as your captain but pick carefully — that player will earn 1.5x the normal rate of points. You must not select more than 3 players from the same team when filling out your roster.
Showdown contests: These contests involve a single match involving just two teams. As a result of a smaller pool of players, the size of your roster in these contests is smaller. Rosters consist of four players, 2 Captain positions and 2 Flex positions. The two Captain positions will earn points at 1.5 the normal rate.
DraftKings CS:GO game types
Within each of the two major styles of contests, DraftKings offers a handful of different types of contests, which are effectively distinct in the way they pay players and the number of players that can join the contests.
- Head to heads – A contest against a single opponent.
- 50/50 – Contests where half of the field wins prizes.
- Tournaments – Contests with an unlimited number of entries. These contests have the largest prize pools.
- Multipliers – Those who finish in the money will receive a multiplier of an entry fee as a prize (such as 3x)
- Satellites and Qualifiers – Tournaments and contests into higher buy-in contests.
