Today in Europe, the biggest club game in professional soccer will take place in the Estadio do Dragao, in Porto, Portugal. Two English Premier League teams, Manchester City and Chelsea will battle it out to become the Champions League winners.
Ok, so it’s soccer and we don’t usually cover these games, especially with the NBA Playoffs in full swing, but this is a special game, one that is played just once a year.
For soccer fans, this is their Super Bowl or NBA Championship decider.
With interest and support for Premier League teams growing around the world, and particularly in the United States, I’ve decided to give you a bit more information about this globally important fixture.

The Champions League Final
The Champions League Final is the culmination of a tournament that began way back in August last year. Over the past ten months, the number of teams in the competition has been whittled down to just two, through a number of different stages, until we have our two finalists.
Manchester City claimed the English Premier League title this season and also won the Carabao Cup competition. Spaniard Pep Guardiola is their manager and he is hoping his all-conquering team can land their third trophy of the season.
However, it would be the first time ever that Manchester City will land the Champions League on Saturday, if they win the game.
Their opponents are Chelsea, who have been to the Champions League Final twice before, losing once on penalties to Manchester United and winning the next time on penalties, this time against Bayern Munich.
Chelsea also have the added boost of having beaten Manchester City twice in two recent fixtures between the teams. A 1-0 win in the FA Cup Semi Final, as well as a 2-1 win over City in the Premier League.
Manager Thomas Tuchel, formerly with Paris St Germain, took over at the club when Frank Lampard was sacked earlier on this season.
Who Are The Players To Watch In The Champions League Final?
One of the most appealing aspects of this game is the number of quality players that both teams have at their disposal.
US fans will be interested in whether Chelsea’s U.S. superstar Christian Pulisic starts the game, or must be content with a place on the bench.
Man City’s own American star, goalkeeper Zack Steffen, will also be on the bench backing up their first choice goalkeeper, the Brazilian international Ederson.
Other stars to watch for Manchester City include the exciting Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez and the English midfielder Phil Foden.
Chelsea have their own stars too including England duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, as well as the energetic French midfielder N’Golo Kante and the German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Who Are The Favorites To Win The Champions League?
Despite the fact Chelsea have won the last two encounters between the teams, Manchester City are the clear favorites to win the trophy. Manchester City are currently -112 on the money line with BetRivers PA to claim the victory, while Chelsea are a distant +340.
There is no doubt that Manchester City are the better team in terms of talent, but in the past two games, Chelsea have found a way to pick up a victory despite City having most of the possession and that will give Chelsea fans real hope they can spring an upset here.
I Mean, It’s Soccer, Should I Even Watch?!
Yes! You should, this is the biggest club game in soccer at the moment alongside the Copa Libertadores final, so if you are going to get into the game, then this is a great fixture with which to start!
And if you are wondering who I’m going to back, I think Manchester City will take the win.
