Welcome to the world of exhibition boxing matches, where seemingly anything can happen and undefeated World Champions can be dragged into some farcical scenes by someone best known for being half-decent at making social media videos.
Last night at a specially arranged press conference to promote their fight set to take place on June 6th, Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul became embroiled in a scuffle after the social media star’s intensely irritating younger brother Jake, snatched Mayweather’s cap from his head as the two faced off in front of the cameras.

Quite what Jake Paul was doing there in the first place, especially getting into Floyd Mayweather’s grill, is unknown. He is not involved in this fight.
It is his brother, Logan, with the incredible record of 0-0-1 from his single professional bout (which he lost to a fellow YouTube star, KSI) that will battle the 50-0-0 multiple weight World Champion.
However, this is not the first cunning stunt that the blonde-haired social media star turned boxer has pulled. Shortly after his fight with Ben Askren, I am not going to call it a win as Askren seemed more than happy to hit the deck and take his half a million dollar payday, Paul turned up at a big UFC show and quickly became embroiled in a heated argument with Daniel Cormier.
He has since been taunting Connor McGregor on Twitter, as well as calling out a number of boxers in what has been a shameless attempt to draw attention to himself as a credible opponent for one of them.
As such, this latest incident is not a surprise. Mayweather, despite being retired, is still a huge draw and his willingness to take on all-comers such as Logan Paul and Conor McGregor makes him an ideal ‘victim’ to promote both himself and the forthcoming fight.
Tattoo On His Leg
The scuffle, which lasted a fair amount of time, was eventually broken up and an angry Mayweather departed without his hat. The younger Paul, who instigated the whole affair, was bundled by his team into a cupboard until the boxer had departed, nursing what looked to be a cut above his eye.
The elder brother Logan, who is actually going to fight Mayweather, then left the conference looking somewhat bemused at what had just gone on.
However, a short time later Jake Paul shared a video on his Twitter channel of him getting a tattoo on his leg stating “Gotcha Hat” and not only that, but he also changed the name of his official Twitter feed to the same phrase.

Interestingly, he was wearing a cap and dark glasses and seemed to be hiding a swelling over his eye.
He later tweeted that “word on the street already is that Floyd is sending goons after me to try and kill me or hurt me. If I die…I died for the hat”

Quite why a 50-0-0 multiple weight World Champion, who has beaten the best in the world repeatedly over many years, would require ‘goons’ to beat up a millionaire social media star with a boxing record worse than most amateurs, is not yet clear.
Despite this, I do hope this latest brawl was nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at promoting the June fight between Logan Paul and Mayweather, as well as enhancing Jake Paul’s profile.
There have been too many tragic incidents between boxers with real records and of real quality and it is this which I think is the real danger here. My worry is that one of these so called ‘exhibition’ bouts is going to end in tragedy.
And nothing, no matter how many tickets you sell on pay per view, will make that right.
