What is Euro 2020?

So, what is this Euro 2020 tournament upon which this BetMGM Sportsbook offer is based?

The tournament will feature 24 international teams from across Europe, all of whom have qualified to compete in the finals of this tournament over the last 12-18 months. They have been split into six groups of four teams for the first phase of the tournament.

The teams will play each team in their group once, with the top 16 teams from the group stage progressing into the knockout phase.  The other eight teams will be eliminated from the tournament.

From then on, the knockout phase will see the teams face off in a single game with extra time and penalties used to decide the winner in the event of a tie.

Eventually, the teams remaining in the tournament will be reduced until just two remain to contest the European Championship Final on July 11.

The tournament is taking place at several venues across Europe including London, Glasgow, Rome, Seville, Copenhagen, Bucharest, Amsterdam, Saint Petersburg, Budapest and Baku.

Both semifinals and the final are being played at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Who Is Competing In The Tournament?

All the top teams in European international football will be taking part in this tournament this summer.

This includes the current World Cup holders France, the previous World Cup holders Germany, the current European Championship holders Portugal, the top ranked international team in the world, Belgium plus the likes of Spain, Italy, England and the Netherlands.

Alongside these teams there are a 16 other European teams of varying degrees of ability taking part: Denmark, Austria, Croatia, Wales, Scotland, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Switzerland, North Macedonia, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Slovakia.

Who Are The Favorites To Win?

A current look at the Tournament Winner odds with BetMGM reveals that World Cup holders France are the +450 favorites to win the tournament.

England are the +550 second favorites after a semifinal showing at the 2018 World Cup Finals, plus the fact that they will play their three group games at home at Wembley Stadium, plus they could also play their Round of 16, semi-final and final at the stadium, should they get that far.

The top ranked international team in the world, Belgium are the +600 third favorites with Germany, Spain, Italy and Portugal all +800, while the Netherlands are +1400 and Denmark +2500.

Outside of that, the odds drift markedly down to North Macedonia and Finland who are both the +50000 outsiders to win the tournament.

Group Details

The groups were drawn as per seedings for the tournament to ensure a fair split of teams between each group and the draw resulted in the following six groupings.

  • Group A – Italy, Switzerland, Wales, Turkey
  • Group B – Belgium, Russia, Finland, Denmark
  • Group C – Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, North Macedonia
  • Group D – England, Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic
  • Group E – Spain, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia
  • Group F – Portugal, Germany, France, Hungary

Of the groups, Group F is comfortably the most difficult with the past two World Cup winners, plus the Euro 2016 Champions Portugal drawn into the group. However, with four of the best third placed teams qualifying for the Round of 16, all three of those teams should make it through into the Knockout Phase.

Hopefully this bit of background about the European Championships in Europe has helped you formulate some potential answers to the BetMGM promotion questions ready for when the tournament kicks off on Friday 11th June with the first game between Italy and Turkey.

We wish you the best of luck if you are taking part in this free to enter promotion!
