Norman Chad calls WSOP Day 2 late registration “awful”
Yesterday, the World Series of Poker announced key dates of the 2020 WSOP, which included details of the heralded Main Event. One of nuggets getting some attention from the news is the revelation that registration for the event will remain open through the first end of the first level on Day 2, July 5th. Here’s what ESPN’s Norman Chad had to say about it:
Allowing Day 2 late registration for the World Series of Poker Main Event is an awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful decision by my friends at the WSOP.
It just strikes me as awful.

Chad later explained that late registration for poker’s biggest event “corrupts the integrity of the competition” and that “everyone should start on an equal footing.” WSOP Tournament Director Matt Savage, a friend of Chad, had this to say:
So close registration at “Shuffle up and deal?” How is entering level 3 so much different than registering level 6. In the Main Event registering day 1 at the start has to be an advantage over day 2 due to field strength. Not even @SpaceyFCB’s fancy chart can dispute that.
