Weekend Hit and Run: Whalen Wins MSPT Venetian, 888Poker Madrid Into Day Two, and Elio Dominating Down Under

Sure, it might be Super Bowl weekend, but there’s still plenty of action on the green felt! Bob Whalen won the MSPT Venetian Poker Bowl and $140k. The 888Poker Madrid Main Event is onto Day Two with Kara Scott healthy in chips. And Elio Fox is chip leader at the final table of the Super High Roller Bowl Australia. We have all those stories and more in the weekend edition of the Hit and Run.

Bob Whalen Wins MSPT Venetian Poker Bowl for $140k!

Bob Whalen just won the biggest tournament of his life! And it was one the had a prizepool of over $1,000,000!

1,093 players turned out for the fourth edition of the Mid-States Poker Bowl at The Venetian in Las Vegas. And after it was all said and done, Bob walked away with $140,152 as part of a deal with the top five players.

Whalen might look slightly familiar to poker fans from his TV coverage in 2008 where he made a deep run in the Main Event, ultimately placing 79th.

Of course several other name pros made deep runs. Justin Young placed 7th for almost 30k. Also Terry Fleischer (14th – $11,662), Marko Pantelic (20th – $8,588), Kfir Nahum (22nd – $7,209), Kathy Liebert (23rd – $7,209), Sorel Mizzi (31st – $4,559), Brett Halan (41st – $3,499), Ashley Sleeth (47th – $3,181), Kenna James (60th – $2,863), Chipp Jett (66th – $2,757), Eric Wasylenko (70th – $2,757), and Joe Matheson (77th – $2,651).
