PokerStars Deal With Fox Sports Includes Debut Of 2019 PSPC On FS1 Tonight

In yet another sign that online poker is continuing to gain acceptance in the United States, PokerStars has announced a partnership with Fox Sports to begin broadcasting poker content through the national network. And poker fans won’t have to wait long to see the first sign of the deal.

On Friday, February 26th beginning at 11 PM ET, FS1 will broadcast the 2019 PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’Em Championship. Coverage will consist of play filmed from the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. The high-profile tournament generated buzz for its unique method of qualifying players via “Platinum Passes,” which allowed dozens of players who wouldn’t have otherwise played the chance to participate.

A total of 1,039 players played in the tournament, which generated a $26.4 million prize pool including $5.1 million to first place. Norm MacDonald, Tony Hawk and Paul Pierce were among the celebrities to play the tournament.

The broadcast of the PSPC previews an emerging partnership between PokerStars and Fox Sports. In a press release, Fox Sports said that the deal between the two brands would “deliver an array of entertaining poker content from PokerStars events all over the world.” In addition, Fox Sports noted that PokerStars content will also be broadcast on local network Fox stations. This has already happened in Michigan, which launched online poker late last month.

An influx of live poker on national TV

The debut of the PSPC on FS1 won’t be the only show that poker fans can enjoy this weekend. The announcement comes on the heels of the World Series of Poker announcing that the 2020 WSOP Main Event will be shown on ESPN2 this weekend.

ESPN2 will air coverage of the two final tables held in December — the International portion in the Czech Republic and the Domestic tournament held in Las Vegas. They will also show the Head’s Up No Limit Hold’em Championship, which crowned the official winner of 2020 earlier this year.

What’s the schedule for the 2019 PSPC TV coverage
