PokerStars MICOOP Coming To Michigan With A Bang

After a successful launch in Michigan late last month, PokerStars MI revealed that the state will get its first MICOOP, announcing on Tuesday that players will be able to play its iconic “Championship of Online Poker Series” on the newly live online poker room later this month.

And despite the fact that Michigan online poker is in its infancy, PokerStars will not be holding back for the first MICOOP.

The action gets underway on February 20th and runs through March 8th. During the series, MICOOP will be guaranteeing $1 million in prizes over the two-plus weeks of festivities.

PokerStars MI will hold a total of 60 events over 16 days with buy-ins for the events ranging from $10 up to $500. The tournament schedule includes the usual No Limit Hold’em freezeouts as well as rebuys and progressive knockouts.

Not only is No Limit Hold’em well-represented, but players will also have the choice to enter Pot Limit Omaha tournaments, 5-card draw, 7 card stud hi/lo, HORSE and 8-game mixed events.

Like all COOP events, the MICOOP will also include two Main Events: a $300 buy-in Main Event and a $50 buy-in Mini Main Event — both on March 7th. With the Main Events, come some of the largest prize pools of the MICOOP.

The Main Event will guarantee $125,000 while the Mini Main Event will guarantee $35,000 in prizes.

How does MICOOP compare to other “COOP” events?

PokerStars Michigan is introducing MICOOP to the state’s players with a bang. At 60 events, the event is already larger than the most recent events in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The PACOOP, which was held in September 2020, offered players 50 tournaments. The NJCOOP, which was was last held in October 2020, was a 54 event series.

The tournaments had comparable guarantees with $1.5 million guaranteed for PACOOP with $2 million ultimately paid. During the NJCOOP in October 2020, $1 million was guaranteed,

Of course, the COOP events in individual states don’t quite carry the prestige of PokerStars.com COOP events outside of the United States. The last SCOOP and WCOOP guaranteed $135 million and $80 million in prizes, respectively.

While players won’t see those numbers anytime soon, when the merging of player pools happens across states — possibly as soon as this year — players might get a taste of what to expect in the future.

Freerolls and satellites available

Another major similarity of COOP events is that the MICOOP offers satellites to many of the events, allowing players a cheaper alternative — as low as $2 — versus direct buy-ins.

You can even qualify for the Main Event for free. PokerStars MI players who deposit at least $30 and use bonus code MICOOP will get a ticket into the freeroll set for March 7th and awarding 35 free seats worth a total of $10,500.

In addition, Second Chance Freerolls will be available to all players who enter MICOOP events but do not cash. Look for these events daily throughout the MICOOP.
