New Details Released on Murder of Poker Pro Susie Zhao
The body of 33-year-old Susie Zhao was found badly burned in a state recreation area on July 13, leading White Lake, Michigan authorities to immediately begin a murder investigation.
According to radio station WXYZ Detroit, Zhao was bound with zip ties and then sexually assaulted. She was then “lit on fire until she died.” Whether the burning was the exact cause of death is unknown.
White Lake Township Detective Chris Hild noted, “This is not the end of the investigation into Susie’s death, but the beginning of the pursuit of justice for her and her family. We can only hope that where we are today brings some level of comfort to the healing process.”
The nature of Zhao’s and Morris’s relationship is unclear. We’ll bring you more details on the case as they develop.
Many in the poker community expressed their shock and sadness over her death:
She was one of the bubbliest and most vivacious opponents I've ever had. She was a very strong player who also liked to have fun at the table. Do you remember her from our Day Five in 2015, @jeffplatt? I'm heartbroken reading this. RIP Susie Zhaohttps://t.co/eTdnV07N4q
