Poker Charts (Preflop)

Poker Charts Are a “Crutch,” Say #PokerTwitter Followers

Preliminary negotiations for the November 1st heads-up No Limit Hold’em match between Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk have led to social media dialogue as fans evaluate the potential use of preflop poker charts.

Should the use of preflop poker charts be allowed or banned during the Daniel Negreanu vs. Doug Polk heads-up match — tentatively scheduled for November 1st?

This question is being posed to #PokerTwitter fans by six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu.

VOTE NOW: Twitter Poll (Total Votes: 6,500 — 17 hours remaining — 32% “Yes it’s fine” °° 68% “No way”)

Feedback so far indicates that roughly two-thirds of those who have voted believe poker charts should not be allowed in the upcoming heads-up match.

Following are quotes posted by Daniel Negreanu’s Twitter feed (all tweets from October 8th) that directly relate to whether preflop charts should be permitted:

“Having the chart in front of you means you are literally doing nothing but reading and clicking buttons. That requires zero skill.”

“If someone is using a chart they can play perfectly. How do you exploit someone making zero mistakes? The answer. You can’t.”

“If the chart allows for your opponent to make no mistakes preflop, but without one they may make exploitable ones, why should a crutch be allowed?”

“There is nothing wrong with studying charts and memorizing the content. That’s a skill that should be rewarded.”

Doug Polk Calls Negotiation Process “Petty”

The prospect of a Daniel Negreanu vs. Doug Polk challenge match was first communicated by Poker Life Podcast host Joey Ingram… on July 27th, 2020.

Two and a half months later, Doug Polk believes (all tweets from October 2020):

“…part of why the negotiation process for this challenge looks so petty is that instead of just hammering all this stuff out privately and setting a date, I have to just wait for him to tweet out the new rules that he didn’t consult me on.”

“Are you calling preflop ranges RTA? Id like to use my preflop ranges during the challenge. Obviously postflop should have no real time solutions being calculated to help people play.”

“I wanted to just work out directly from the start. That wasn’t an option apparently.”
