Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk returned for their second session of the week and Day 17 of their heads-up match on Wednesday, sitting down for three-hours of high-stakes No Limit Hold’em.
Heading into the day, Negreanu was coming off a tough session on Monday where he lost $160,348.99, his 4th largest loss since play began in early November and wiping out all of his gains from the previous three sessions.
On Wednesday, Doug Polk again got the better of Negreanu, which was cemented from a key hand late in the session to secure the victory and finish up the day around $101,000. The hand was one of the few times there has been an all-in before the flop.
Official numbers have not yet been released, but over the three-hour session, the pair played an estimated 600 hands. With 17 rounds in the book, Negreanu and Polk have now played approximately 8,800 hands with Polk increasing his overall lead to around $775k.
“Heads-up poker is bananas,” said Negreanu after the session, which included many more choice words of the misfortune he has faced so far.
Watch Day 17
Joey Ingram was back hosting the session on Wednesday afternoon, where he was joined remotely by Landon Tice.
Win or lose, Daniel Negreanu showed up once again for a post-match interview with Jeff Platt and Patrick Tardif where he opened up his comments with a “WTF is going on?”
And it’s not all in his head. When accounting for all-in EV in the match, Daniel Negreanu is running $277,204.15 behind expectation. The number would certainly not erase Negreanu’s deficit, but it does suggest Negreanu has a recent to be frustrated, especially when we haven’t seen all of the other hands.
Check out the full interview beginning at the 3:16:31 mark: (warning: language).
Doug Polk was all smiles after the session in his own post-match interview with Jaime Kerstetter. When asked about Negreanu’s fortune so far, he said, “Some times you run bad at poker. Some times you run good. That is the reality.”

Stayed tuned for tomorrow’s analysis as he suggested in his post-game interview that his analysis for Day 17 would be a doozy.
