Daniel Negreanu is set to play Phil Hellmuth in his High Stakes Duel match on March 16th, but that’s not stopping from Negreanu risking more money against Phil Hellmuth.
In a sign that Negreanu is feeling good about his chances against Hellmuth, Negreanu recently revealed that he has made extra bets on himself at -150 odds. And now Negreanu is betting against Hellmuth’s in tournaments that don’t even involve him.
On Tuesday, Negreanu announced that he has placed a bet against Phil Hellmuth’s profitability at the high stakes MTTs, revealing on Twitter that he is putting up $400,000 to Hellmuth’s $200,000 that he can’t show a profit while playing Aria’s $25,000 buy-in tournaments.
Bet offered and accepted:
If he shows a $1 profit he wins the bet.

Per the tweet, Phil Hellmuth must play 50 of Aria’s $25,000 MTTs. If Hellmuth does not show a profit over those tournaments, Hellmuth will need to pony up $200,000 to Negreanu in addition to the losses sustained in the tournaments. Should Hellmuth win over the 50 tournaments, not only will he be a benefactor of the proceeds of the tournaments, but he will also win $400,000 from Hellmuth.
Some Hellmuth detractors in the poker community were quick to ask Hellmuth if he was interested in betting even more at those odds.

When this poker fan noted that the live poker scene is a bit depressed at the moment due to COVID and that $25k’s aren’t exactly plentiful at the moment, Negreanu used the opportunity to poke Hellmuth again:
Pretty sure there will be as many as Phil wants to play… https://t.co/ovs6z1YqXs

There has been no timetable announced for when Hellmuth would have to complete the tournaments, which has led some to speculate that Hellmuth could stop playing if he was behind.
What if he doesn’t play 50 in like 10 years??

Fortunately, with COVID-19 positivity rates improving, poker rooms could get back to a more normal schedule this summer, especially during the 2021 World Series of Poker. Hellmuth should have ample opportunity to play these tournaments and once again silence his detractors.
