The holiday season is in full swing, but luckily for us so is the poker schedule. Alex Foxen won the WPT Five Diamond event in dominating fashion for $1.7 million bucks. Michael Rocco took down the inaugural Wynn Winter Classic for over half a mill, and we have all the latest updates on the Galfond challenge. It’s all here and more in the weekend edition of the Hit and Run.
Alex Foxen Wins WPT Bellagio Five Diamond!
$1.7 million dollars! While that score seems normal in today’s high roller scene, it’s absolutely massive for a 10k WPT event! And that’s the amount Alex Foxen is taking home after overcoming a monster field of 1,035 entries to win the World Poker Tour Five Diamond.
Not only that, with the win Foxen secured his spot as the GPI Player of the Year for the second year in a row! Afterwards, Foxen was all smiles saying, “It feels amazing. The last time I got to this spot I was a little bit disappointed in how I played heads-up. It’s just incredible to get the opportunity again and be fortunate enough to pull out the win.”
Congrats to Alex and all the other crushers at the final table. Here are the official payouts:
Michael Rocco Tops Wynn Winter Classic for 540k
Michael Rocco has been on the poker tournament scene for a decade now, but he just binked the biggest scores of his career! This weekend Rocco won the inaugural Wynn Winter Classic $5,300 buy-in Championship Event for a solid $540,800! In total 557 entrants put up the 5k buy-in, and in the end Rocco beat Main Event 3rd place finisher Micael Dyer heads-up (no deal!) for all the chips, the money, and the trophy.
Plenty of solid regs and bracelet winners came back for the final day. Some of the bigger names to come up just short of the final table were Galen Hall (10th – $45,987), Ankush Mandavia (11th – $45,987), Kahle Burns (12th – $39,474), Shannon Shorr (15th – $34,325), Barry Shulman (17th – $29,848), Justin Bonomo (25th – $19,797), and Matt Glantz (31st – $17,290).
