With a relative lull in high-profile heads-up matches and void left by the delay of the main part of the World Series of Poker — which starts at the end of September — the latest installment of the Galfond Challenge got underway on Monday.
Having beat three worthy opponents in the last couple years, Galfond will attempt to make it four in a row. This time he will face off against Brandon Adams, a WSOP bracelet winner and a player that has accumulated over $5 million in live tournament winnings?

They will play $100/$200 Pot-Limit Omaha heads-up.
How many hands are Galfond and Adams playing?
The latest installment of the Galfond Challenge will mix things up a bit in that there will not be a specific hand requirement. Instead, the pair will play for around 40 hours before stopping.
They will be playing from Monday through Friday.
Who is winning the Adams vs Galfond Challenge so far?
During the first session, which was held on July 26th, Brandon Adams got off to a good start by winning around $16,000.
Is there a side bet for the match?
In addition to the winnings that come from the challenge, the winner will also win a side bet. Phil Galfond is putting up $150,000 to Adams’ $100,000. These odds are more even than other Galfond Challenge matches, which have been as high as 4:1 for Chance Kornuth.
Where are Galfond and Adams playing?
Unlike previous matches, which have been played at online poker rooms such as Run It Once Poker and partypoker, this match will be held in a live setting. The pair are playing this match from Resorts World Las Vegas.

What’s happened so far in the Galfond Challenge?
Phil Galfond began his Galfond Challenge adventures in early 2020 with his first match against Venividi. The match was held during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and helped entertain a poker playing public that was finding themselves with more free time.
Galfond was famously behind by over €900k during the match, but staged an epic comeback to narrowly win the match by €1,671 and win the €100k sidebet.
Next up it was ActionFreak, who Galfond played 15k hands against. Galfond held the lead for almost the entirety of the match, ultimately finishing up by €114k to win the sidebet of €150k.
Around this time, Galfond went head to head with Bill Perkins but to date the pair have only played 862 hands with Galfond currently ahead by €90k.
The most recent match was against Chance Kornuth. Galfond took an early lead, but Kornuth battled back to a $344k lead with midway through the Challenge. But the second half of the match was all Galfond as he rallied to a $726k lead which caused Kornuth to withdraw with only 25,400 hands played of the 35,000 initially agreed to.
