It may not be gathering the attention of Negreanu vs Polk or Negreanu vs Hellmuth, but another notable heads-up match got underway this week.
We’re talking about Bill Perkins vs Landon Tice, which began on Tuesday with the pair beginning their 20k hand battle. Per terms of the deal, Perkins is being given a head start of $720k to account for Tice’s assumed advantage.
Now the first two sessions are in the books, with play held on Wednesday and Thursday. And to the surprise of some, Bill Perkins seemed to actually hold his own over the two sessions.
During Day 1 of the challenge, Tice came up ahead by winning over $18,000 over the first 623 hands in what proved to be a swingy session.
On Day 2, Perkins reversed his fortunes by winning around $79k, putting himself head by $61k. Another 300 hands were played on Thursday, putting the total count at around 1,000 with another 19,000 hands still remaining at the $200/$400 No Limit Hold’em match.
Given the $720k handicap, Perkins is ahead by approximately $781k after 2 sessions.

Meanwhile, Bill Perkins is pleased with his play so far but bemoaned that odds site PokerShares still has Perkins as a dog even with the handicap added.
Welp, people have seen 2 matches and based on @pokershares line they think I'm a dog in this match. I say thank you for the feedback I'll take another 200k & get super motivated to crush it as best I can. The crowd has spoken and they I need more training time. PS lara eating 😋 https://t.co/HQpfpyr3CB

You can currently get Perkins for +105 and Tice for -125, which in fairness is fairly close to even. Perhaps with another winning session or two, Perkins will become the favorite.
What’s next in Tice vs Perkins?
With just two days of play and 1,000 hands completed, there is still a lot of poker left to be played. But with a $720k deficit, Tice was hoping that he wouldn’t have to dig himself from an even bigger hole.
The pair will next pick things up on Saturday with a time yet to be announced.
