WSOP moving 2022

2022 WSOP Location To Be… Bally’s And Paris On The Las Vegas Strip?

The highly anticipated return of a live World Series of Poker will hit the Rio Casio and All Suites in late September. But the 2021 WSOP will likely mark the last time the poker world’s biggest event will be held in the location it has since 2005.

Instead, the most recent indications are that it will move to Bally’s and Paris, located on the Las Vegas strip. The news comes through an unlikely source — a Facebook post not from a poker-based authority but instead from the Valley National 8-Ball Association, which was made on July 15th.

In its post, it revealed that its contract with Bally’s Hotel had been canceled suddenly due to a move of the World Series of Poker to Bally’s and Paris in 2022. This means that the pool tournament, which was originally set to take place from May 26th to June 4th 2022 would conflict with the WSOP, which generally begins at the end of May.

The full post from the VNEA World Championship can be read here.

The World Series of Poker, which was likely not aware the VNEA announcement would be made, has yet to confirm the post, but it is the strongest indication yet of where the WSOP will be after this year.

A history of the location of the World Series of Poker

The very first World Series of Poker was held at the Binion’s Horseshoe, where it was held every year until 2004. In 2005, after being sold to Harrah’s Entertainment, it was moved to the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino.

While the new venue didn’t have the history of the Horseshoe it did allow the WSOP a great era of expansion that not only included more events but also much larger fields. In 2019, the Rio was sold to a New York real estate company.

After the sale, it was revealed that the Rio would continue to play host to the World Series of Poker for the foreseeable future, although a firm date had not yet been confirmed. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Rio would become a Hyatt Hotel, which further indicated that a move could be soon.

Both Bally’s and Paris are Harrah’s Entertainment properties, which makes strategic sense for the company due to the fact the WSOP is also a Harrah’s property. In addition, the two properties are in close proximity on the Las Vegas strip with shared parking. This central location combined with more than adequate convention space will also allow the World Series of Poker space to continue to grow.
