The poker boom of the 2000’s saw a widespread uptake in the game of poker across the world. The game remains very popular to this very day, with the most commonly played version of the game being Texas Hold’em.
Although poker is often played in casinos, in online casinos games that involve players taking on other players for cash are relatively rare.
However, that doesn’t mean that poker fans have to go without. There are a number of different options available for them but perhaps the most fitting is Casino Hold’em.
There are of course many variants of the game available to play, but we are going to take a look at the NetEnt version in particular, which you can play now at BetMGM Casino.
Before we go into the intricacies of the game itself, let’s first answer the question that most poker players would be interested in knowing the answer to.

Does Being Skilled At Texas Hold’em Help You When Playing Casino Hold’em?
For many poker players the prospect of being able to use your skills learned from playingTexas Hold’em to another game is very enticing. Learning Texas Hold’em is relatively simple, mastering it can take many years. Some maintain you can never master the game.
However, if you can use the skills learned in that game to help you in another game, then that could potentially offer you an advantage?
Well, first up the good news. There are a number of similarities between Casino Hold’em and Texas Hold’em in terms of how many cards you dealt the fact you also turn over the flop, turn and river cards and of course, the hand rankings used in the games are the same too.
But, there are significant differences in the mechanics of each game and that is all down to the type of opponent you are facing and how they play.
In standard Texas Hold’em, you face one or more human opponents who can make many and varied decisions. They can bluff, double bluff, fold pocket aces, go all in with a 7-2 off suit. The variation in the game is part of what makes it so tricky and that is precisely because your opponent is another human being (or several).
That is not the case in Casino Hold’em where you are going up against the casino. Furthermore, the options available in Casino Hold’em are very limited compared to standard Hold’em. However, this does make for a much more structured game (which is not a bad thing if you are not a great Texas Hold’em player).
So while some of the skills and knowledge you have learned from Texas Hold’em is useful for Casino Hold’em, it doesn’t offer you any great advantage over the casino as the game is very structured in comparison. That way of course, allows casinos to offer the game to customers, safe in the knowledge that the house edge is in their favor.
How Do You Play A Typical Hand Of Casino Hold’em?
A typical game of Casino Hold’em starts by a player making an initial bet called the Ante bet. In NetEnt’s version of the game you can also place an optional bet on the AA Bonus option, which is paid out if a player lands a hand of a pair of aces or better in the game.
Once your bets have been placed, you then click the deal button to begin the game.
The hand is then dealt. The player receives two cards face up the house also receives two cards (which are face down) and then there are three cards placed face up. These three cards are community cards used by both the house and player to create poker hands and they are known as the flop.
At this point, what happens next in the game is decided by the player. If a player decides that their hand is very poor, they may wish to fold. This means they lose their bet, the cards are collected in and a new hand will begin with the player making a fresh bet.
Alternatively, if the player decides to play on they click the “Call” button. A bet of the twice the size as your initial Ante bet is then added to the Call button.
After this two more community cards are added to the three already shown face up. These are the turn and River cards. Once all five community cards are in place, then the computer hand is revealed.
The winner of the hand is then determined but in order for the player to win, the dealer’s hand has to qualify. In this version of the game, this means hand of a pair of fours or better (though this may differ depending on which version of Casino Hold’em you play).
If at the end of the game the dealer’s hand does not quality, then the player receives back their Call and their Ante bet is doubled and paid to the player and the game ends.
However, if the dealer does qualify then the hands are compared and the highest value hand wins. If the dealer wins, then the player loses all their bets and the game ends. If the player wins, then they are paid out based on the strength of their hand as it is listed on the Paytable in the game.
Wins range from an even money return on a straight or less, up to 100x your bet for a Royal Flush. The higher the value of your hand, then the greater the return you can expect from your bet.
If you also placed a bet on the AA bonus and land a hand of a pair of aces or better, then you can win 7x your bet for a pair of aces or straight, or up to 25x your bey for a flush or better. This is paid in addition to any returns you may land from your Ante or Call bets.
Is Casino Hold’em Hard To Understand For Non-Poker Players?
Although when viewed in this way, Casino Hold’em may seem somewhat complex, in truth it is no more difficult to understand than a game like Baccarat or Blackjack.
It is a game that when you explain it in words alone, it sounds complicated. However, when you see the game in action and play it for yourself, it becomes very clear very quickly how it is played and you can be playing quite happily within just a couple of hands.
It does help if you have an understanding of the value of poker hands and how they compare, but even that is not necessary as all this is worked out by the software for you.
So if you enjoy poker and fancy trying something a little different to standard Texas Hold’em, then Casino Hold’em is an interesting option for you that takes away some of the more unpredictable aspects of playing against other players.
