The Toughest Casino To Get Out Of…
Nevada is the home of Las Vegas, for many the home of casino gaming, but did you also know that the state was also home to a somewhat less glitzy and salubrious casino?
Back in 1932, the Nevada State Prison decided to open its own casino. Yes, that is bizarre as it sounds.
Not only that, but this also wasn’t just a table in a back room. The casino boasted blackjack and craps, as well as its own sports book and a poker room.
The dealers were all convicted felons and any profits the casino made went back to the prison’s inmate welfare fund.
The casino was never licensed, unsurprisingly, but it ran for an incredible 35 years until legislation by the state forced the casino to close in 1967.
The World’s Smallest Casino?
You could argue that the world’s smallest casino is an online casino you can play on your phone, but what about a real world casino with a dealer, table, bar and even online slots?
We know that the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville Oklahoma, is the United States’ largest casino, but to play the world’s smallest casino, you need to head to a Birmingham. Not in Alabama, but in the middle of the United Kingdom.
There one of the city’s largest casino operators runs a special casino service, from the back of a taxi. The service, as we stated above, has a human dealer, a table, a bar and even a terminal which customers can use to play slot games.
What’s the point of this? Well the taxi is used to ferry customers to the casino in the city and any profits that the casino makes from the taxi are donated to charity. It may well be a gimmick, but it is one that certainly caught the eye of casino fans in England’s second city.
What Are The Chances?
Casinos are built on the concept of chance. Top casino gamers will instinctively know what their chances are when playing a certain type of game, or a particular situation arises in a games such as poker.
Now this next story is not casino-related but it is weird enough to show you just how chance works and how at times, it can lead to almost unbelievable situations.
Back in 1973, Anthony Hopkins, he of Hannibal Lecter fame and Thor’s father Odin from the Marvel Universei, agreed to appear in the film version of The Girl From Petrovka, a novel written by George Feifer.
After accepting the role, Hopkins decided to read the book to learn more about the story and the character he would portray. However, as he wandered around London, searching various bookstores, he could not lay hands on a single copy of the book.
Somewhat dejected, he decided to jump back on the train and head home. With his train not due for a short while, Hopkins entered the railway waiting room and noticed a book on a bench.
The book was “The Girl from Petrovka.”
Now that is weird enough, but then things got even weirder. Hopkins, picked up the book and flicked through it and noticed that there were copious notes on the story made next to the text.
Not only had Hopkins found the book he needed, he has actually found the authors own copy of the book, into which he had made notes about the story and characters, including the one Hopkins was set to play in the film.
Now if that doesn’t want to make you head to the casino to see if chance is on your side, then I don’t know what would!
The Freaky Bulgarian Lottery Of 2009
Lottery games are very popular, we have our own Pennsylvania State Lottery on site but I doubt anything as weird has happened as what occurred in the Bulgarian National Lottery back in 2009.
In the Bulgarian lottery, six numbers are drawn for the main prize and on this particular date in that year, the numbers 4, 15, 23, 24, 35 and 42 were drawn from the machine.
Nobody had picked those six numbers, so the pot rolled over to the following week.
That next week, the machine picked the exact same six numbers, 4, 15, 23, 24, 35 and 42. This time, 18 people split the jackpot prize between them.
Oh, and the odds on that happening are somewhere around the 400 TRILLION to one mark.
